Masterpeace
Mandala Arts was formed to help the
over 5,000 hurricane Katrina victims
who lost their homes and relocated
to St. Louis, Missouri in the fall
of 2005. The program created welcoming
mandalas filled with positive
wishes and energies for the Katrina
families as they settled into new
homes, and brought
Katrina families together to create
mandalas for their own inspiration
and healing.
Masterpeace Mandala Arts expanded beyond it original outreach to help indivuduals and families who need support
in setting up their new homes, or dealing
with life’s challenges.
Masterpeace
Mandala Arts’ purpose
is to empower and encourage meaningful
creativity in the children and adults
who create the mandalas, and to empower
and encourage the recipients of the mandalas.
Masterpeace Mandala arts is a joint
collaboration between Linda Wiggen Kraft
and Meg Krejci, the founder and Executive Director of Masterpeace Studios,
a non-profit (501(c)3 organization
dedicated to inspiring and empowering
people of all ages to healthy living
and self awareness through the arts.
Meg Krejci
and Julie Garland ( a founding board member of Masterpeace Studios) and their children
took Linda’s mandala class
during the time of hurricane Katrina
and were inspired along with Linda to
start this program. They created the
first mandalas for this program. Since
that initial class various Girl Scout troops, church groups and mandala class participants created mandalas for Masterpeace Mandala Arts.
Each mandala painting is a framed original
watercolor that was created by three
or more artists.
During the creation of the mandalas,
a guided visualization helps the artist
get in touch with the well wishes and
energies they would like the art piece
to convey to the recipients. Some of the thoughts, feelings and
well wishes of these mandalas are: peace,
love, hope, happiness, bravery, new friends
and faith.
Hurricane
Katrina Survivor Relocation Project

Donate 2 Design
( donate2design.org) was founded by interior
designer Cindy Hillman to help families
in need with donations to furnish their
homes so they can be proud of, thereby
bringing self-esteem and dignity to their
lives. Donate 2 Design teamed up
with Catholic Charities’ St. Patrick’s
Center (800 North Tucker 314 802-0700)
to provide free home furnishings to Katrina
Survivors. A warehouse space at Lemp
Brewery, 3500 Lemp Ave.
St. Louis warehoused donations.
Masterpeace Mandala Arts met the
families who came to the site, explained
what the mandalas were, and let them
choose one to take home and display in
their new home.
